CodeMark

CodeMark is a voluntary product certification scheme that provides an easily understood and robust way to show a building product, design or method meets the requirements of the New Zealand Building Code or the Building Code of Australia.

Advantages of CodeMark certification

CodeMark is suitable for any building product, but it is particularly beneficial to manufacturers and suppliers of:

  • innovative products
  • new products to the market
  • products for which failure would have serious consequences.

It also provides a marketing advantage as certified products are deemed to comply with the Building Code, are listed on public registers and can use the CodeMark brand on advertising relating to the product.

CodeMark in New Zealand and Australia

CodeMark was jointly developed by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and the Australian Building Codes Board.

Although similar, the schemes are separate in each country and certificates are only valid for the country they are issued in. However, the CodeMark schemes enable pooling of resources and expertise and increase the access to both trans-Tasman markets for product manufacturers who are based locally and overseas.

The Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JASANZ) is responsible for assessing and accrediting the bodies that provide CodeMark certification.

BRANZ is accredited for both the New Zealand and Australian building codes and markets, as shown in the following certificate:
