Roofs, walls, windows and doors must be weathertight to prevent leaks and damage caused by moisture. BRANZ can evaluate weathertightness through laboratory-based and on-site tests of air permeability, watertightness and wind resistance.

Weathertightness - previous research
<p>BRANZ has had an active presence in weathertightness since the mid-1980s. This work intensified in 2003 in the form of a FRST (now MSI) funded programme in response to the leaky building problem. That programme focused on understanding the basic physics occurring in New Zealand walls</p>

Detailed monitoring results
<p>Daily electricity use varied widely in the initial analysis of a small number of buildings. Electricity use ranged from 7.1 kWh/day for a small shop to about 1,500 kWh/day for a large office building.</p>

GIB® Fire Rated Timber-framed Walls with Protected Timber Penetrations
