SR203 Determining the industry need for a retrofit and renovation information resource (2018)

This study report summarises research into the standard of the New Zealand housing stock and then reports on new research undertaken to determine gaps in the information currently available for designers and builders involved in retrofit and renovation work.

The findings indicate that the industry believes there are gaps in the information currently available, particularly in three broad areas:

• Appropriate details or solutions, difficulty finding or making like-for-like substitution/replacement, fitting new elements into existing structures, working out original building details and finding style or period information.
• Meeting building consent authority requirements and compliance path options.
• Being able to do cost/benefit of options for client and working out what is achievable economically or feasibly.
