ER11 Roadmap for supporting innovation in the New Zealand construction sector (April 2016)

Product Description

New Zealand’s priorities of smart growth for the construction sector includes more high-quality housing to meet the rising demand, improving productivity, increased building information modelling uptake and online systems for an improved building approval process.

In order to strategise ways to accomplish some of these goals, this project assembled a panel of experts who identified three key obstacles to innovation in the construction sector as:

  • the operating environment
  • leadership and guidance for innovation
  • upskilling for new and emerging technology.

This project studied international best practices in addressing these issues.

The report documents and recommends three approaches based on the research at three different scales (governmental support, public sector support and support for small to medium-sized enterprises) addressing three different timescales (long, medium and near term).
