Cold formed steel framing - calibrating and modelling requirements

Description

This was the first phase of a project to improve the thermal performance of steel-framed housing. The output from this initial phase of the research analysed the performance of existing insulation systems relative to the proposed performance levels comparable to international standards with the aim to ultimately generate a code of practice covering the design and installation of components. The first phase of the research covered the selection, evaluation and calibration of current modelling software and to review international practices, model the impact of steel studs and nogs on building envelope performance and establish baseline performance for each component. Currently available construction products and their installation were modelled and evaluated to confirm their performance relative to the proposed standards.
