Findings included:
- the wide diversity of the businesses situated in the BEES buildings, shown by the type of business and its activities, the times of operation and the number of staff and clients
- the heavy reliance of these businesses on reticulated electricity
- variations in energy and water prices for businesses
- variations in lease arrangements and exposure to landlords and property managers
- the sizeable proportion - although in the minority - of owner-occupier businesses
- the range and mix of appliances and equipment in these buildings.
