Construction using structural insulated panels (SIPs) has been suggested as one possible solution to New Zealand’s urgent need for fast, affordable and quality homes. SIPs for residential construction have a relatively short history of use in New Zealand, and therefore little information is available about their performance in a local context. This report considers the fire performance of SIPs based on overseas and New Zealand literature at both a material and building level.
