About our accreditations
BRANZ holds accreditations from different independent bodies accepted in different markets. They reflect independent third-party assessment of our competence, impartiality and independence.
International Accreditation New Zealand
International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ) is a signatory to the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA), a global agreement between accreditation bodies. Through this arrangement, test reports from IANZ-accredited laboratories are more readily recognised and accepted in other participating countries.
For our customers, this means accredited test evidence is credible and fit for purpose, not only in New Zealand but also when selling into Australia and other overseas markets, subject to local regulatory requirements. It can also support the acceptance of products imported into New Zealand where credible independent test evidence is needed.

Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand
Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand (JASANZ) accredits organisations that certify products, services and management systems. Its accreditation provides independent assurance that certification bodies are competent, impartial and operate to recognised international standards. For BRANZ, JASANZ accreditation supports our role as a CodeMark certification body for New Zealand and Australia.
Accreditations by market

Other international markets
International recognition of test reports
BRANZ laboratory accreditations are issued by IANZ, a signatory to the ILAC Mutual Recognition Arrangement. This means BRANZ-accredited test evidence is more readily recognised across participating international markets, helping clients use the same credible technical evidence in multiple jurisdictions. Final acceptance still depends on the requirements of the relevant overseas regulator, approval body or scheme owner.
For manufacturers, this means:
- BRANZ ISO/IEC 17025-accredited test reports are recommended for acceptance by many accreditation bodies worldwide
- reports may support compliance or approval processes in overseas markets, subject to local regulatory requirements
- additional assessment or local testing may still be required depending on jurisdiction.

Specialist and regulatory recognition
Maritime New Zealand – recognised test laboratory
BRANZ is formally recognised by Maritime New Zealand as an approved test laboratory for specified international fire test procedures.
This recognition supports the use of BRANZ fire test evidence in relevant maritime and specialist applications, within the scope and conditions of that recognition.
