This research examined the materials procured for a case study building construction site at 40 Titirangi Road, New Lynn, Auckland, and the rate at which they became waste during construction. The focus was on plastic waste, particularly packaging, off-cuts and built-in plastic. The three key findings from this report present a holistic view of the fate of plastics and other materials after the construction phase of a new-build project. Considering the key findings, the proposed addition to the BRANZ Construction Site Waste Module A5 ‘Construction Site Waste Data - % by Mass that becomes Waste during Building Construction’ datasheet comprises four rows that define the plastic waste more precisely, into the categories: ‘Plastics’ into ‘Plastic packaging’, ‘Plastic off-cuts’ and ‘Other plastics’.
