Research funding for organisations and teams
Our main funding pathway is available to:
- universities and research institutes, including BRANZ Ltd
- industry bodies and incorporated organisations
- Māori research organisations and iwi‑led entities
- building and construction sector organisations.
Research team eligibility
For a team to be eligible for funding:
- the Project Lead or Principal Investigator must be based in Aotearoa New Zealand
- research done overseas will only be eligible for funding if it significantly benefits Aotearoa New Zealand.
Research project eligibility
For a project to be eligible, it must:
- address a current or emerging building system need
- align with BRANZ’s annually published Research Investment Priorities
- deliver practical, shareable outcomes that benefit the wider sector
- focus on one or more of BRANZ’s four strategic focus areas: affordability, resilience, sustainability and quality
- be capable of being delivered within the proposed scope, budget and timeframe.
Projects that primarily benefit a single organisation, promote proprietary products or lack clear sector impact are not eligible.
Scholarships for postgraduate students
Our other funding pathway is for postgraduate students undertaking master's or PhD research aligned with BRANZ’s Research Investment Priorities, focused on building future research capability and delivering sector benefit.
To apply, you must have New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency, have been accepted by a recognised New Zealand tertiary institution and be based in New Zealand while you undertake your research, which must be carried out in Aotearoa New Zealand.
