About the tool

The BRANZ Resource Recovery Map is an online tool that helps people in the construction and demolition (C&D) sector find places across Aotearoa New Zealand where building material waste can be reused, recycled or responsibly disposed of.

It brings together information on known resource recovery facilities, making it easier to manage C&D waste in ways that reduce landfill use and support more circular construction practices. The map includes both existing and planned facilities and is updated using available data, though users are encouraged to contact facilities directly before visiting as details may change.

Background

The BRANZ Resource Recovery Map was developed as part of REBRI (Reducing Building Material Waste) in response to industry demand for a simple way to locate waste recovery facilities nationwide.

The tool supports the goals of:

  • The Waste Minimisation Act 2008
  • The New Zealand Waste Strategy
  • A more efficient and circular building system that reduces material waste and improves resource recovery outcomes.

The 2024 update to the map was delivered in partnership with the Ministry for the Environment, reinforcing its alignment with national waste and resource recovery priorities. The map continues to evolve as new facilities are added and information is refreshed.
