MultiProof is a statement issued by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) confirming that a set of building plans and specifications complies with the Building Code. The scheme is beneficial for builders and companies, particularly developers, who build standardised designs as it speeds up the building consent process.

The Government relaxed the eligibility requirements on 14 December 2025, removing the requirements for applicants to have the intention and ability to build a design at least 10 times over two years, provided the designs are still intended to be replicated.

MultiProof is ideal for nationwide developments that use the same design multiple times. MultiProof approval holders can also make MultiProof plans available to builders and homeowners, so that when others use them, their building consent must be processed in 10 working days.

These changes are part of wider Government reforms aimed at making it easier to build new competitor supermarkets in Aotearoa New Zealand, following feedback gathered in March 2025 on barriers to development.

Building consent is still required for MultiProof-approved designs. However, this process is limited to site-specific elements not covered by the MultiProof approval, such as foundations and site services, and must be completed within 10 working days instead of 20.

To be eligible, applicants must have the intention and ability to reproduce buildings based on proposed plans and specifications or for another person to reproduce buildings based on the proposed plans and specifications.
