Why test for weathertightness?
Testing for weathertightness is essential:
- It reduces moisture risk early – identify vulnerabilities before construction or before a detail is repeated across a project
- It improves buildability and detailing – test junctions, penetrations and interfaces so teams can install with confidence
- It provides clear evidence for decisions – support specification, alternative solutions and stakeholder assurance with independent results.
Testing your products and systems
BRANZ provides independent weathertightness testing to help manufacturers, designers and builders understand how products, junctions and systems perform when exposed to wind, rain and pressure – both in the lab and on site. We can test a variety of products and systems:
- Junctions, interfaces and penetrations where leaks commonly occur (e.g. around windows/doors and service penetrations).
- Roofs, walls, windows and doors where multiple components need to work together to prevent water ingress.
- Façade systems and wall assemblies where different materials meet, requiring water ingress to be managed for reliable performance.
- Project-specific details and build-ups where evidence is needed for an Alternative Solution.
Standards we meet for assurance and trust
We can test to a range of recognised weathertightness test methods.
Additional methods are available on request. If you’re unsure what you need to test to, we’ll guide you to the most appropriate method based on your product, intended use and audience for the results.
Why trust BRANZ?
