About this programme
Presenting useful data about how our houses perform can help inform choices about how we build and which homes we buy. We know that keeping homes warm enough is important to consumers and the building industry, but it’s difficult to measure performance with only fragmented information available. This project tested the market around visible performance information and developed and assessed a base set of metrics for performance. It explored the practical aspects of a wider metrics set for various consumer and industry-related groups.
The long-term aim was to provide a robust way for building industry organisations, consumers and regulatory bodies to understand the performance of new and existing New Zealand homes to inform consumers before they buy or build homes and provide evidence around real-world housing performance. Accessibility and understanding of home performance information could help accelerate improvement in New Zealand’s housing stock.
