  ArchEngBuild Challenge

The ArchEngBuild Challenge is an intensive three-day competition for New Zealand tertiary students held in a host city or town in July each year. The event is now in its seventh year.

The Challenge involves around 30 of New Zealand’s top final-year students in architecture, engineering and construction management from numerous academic institutions. Students collaborate in 10 teams over three days to respond to one real-life client brief.

Students work in teams of three (one from each discipline). The teams’ mission is to design to a brief aiming to enhance the environment for the host centre, while also demonstrating the importance of effective interdisciplinary collaboration.  Such collaboration and teamwork are key to producing a better built environment in the real world.

Students self-nominate or are nominated by tertiary education organisation representatives (e.g. Head of Department, lecturers).

The winning team receives a $7,500 prize, awarded at a prize giving event.

ArchEngBuild attracts a broad sponsor and supporter base from the building and construction industry and tertiary education providers who teach architecture, engineering and/or building courses.
