 BU382 Curing concrete

BU382.jpgThe curing process is probably the most neglected aspect of concreting, but failure to carry out adequate curing at the correct time can result in serious reductions in compressive strength, durability, density and abrasion resistance.

This bulletin provides guidance for designers, builders, concrete placers, territorial authority building officers and building certifiers and gives practical methods of achieving good results.

The bulletin explains:

  • the purpose of curing
  • curing methods - by adding moisture or by preventing moisture loss
  • duration curing period
  • hot weather precautions to avoid plastic cracking.
